Dr. Mary Ann Yang Honored for Inspiring Women in STEM

Associate professor of biology Dr. Mary Ann Yang has been recognized by INSIGHT Into Diversity as one of its 2016 Inspiring Women in STEM. This award honors women who inspire and encourage a new generation of young women to consider careers in the fields of fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), through mentoring, teaching, research, and successful programs and initiatives. Dr. Cheryl Chatman, CSP executive vice president and dean of diversity, nominated Dr. Yang for this honor.

“I want to share this achievement with all of the administrators at Concordia as I know the hard work they do every day to provide a stage for faculty like me and numerous students I’ve mentored to be successful at what we do,” Dr. Yang said. “It’s a true blessing to be here at CSP.”

Since 2011 Dr. Yang has led Concordia’s science undergraduate research program, which conducts cutting-edge research in the field of biology that is rare at the undergraduate level. She has also secured various internal and external funding to fuel the program and has established projects in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic and international research universities. Dr. Yang has mentored and inspired many underrepresented students who have gone on to graduate programs.
