Dr. Paul Hillmer Named Dean of the College of Arts & Letters

Paul Hillmer 2013Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Marilyn Reineck has announced that Dr. Paul Hillmer  (’82) has accepted an appointment as the new Dean of the College of Arts & Letters, beginning July 1, 2016. A faculty member at Concordia since 1991, Dr. Hillmer is currently professor of history and political science and chair of the faculty senate at Concordia University.

“Dr. Hillmer understands the complexities of the higher education environment and will proactively and thoughtfully lead the College of Arts & Letters in offering high quality programs that prepare students for service in a global society.” Dr. Reineck said.

A respected scholar, Dr. Hillmer’s research areas have focused on Southeast Asia, especially the Hmong hill tribes of Laos who became refugees and settled in America. He has published numerous articles and several books, including A People’s History of the Hmong. Dr. Hillmer, who received both his PhD and Master of Arts from the University of Minnesota, delivered the 14th Annual Poehler Lecture on Faith and Learning in 2015.
