John Medeiros Presents “Immigration Options for Foreign Students”

For international students studying in the United States, a variety of employment opportunities exist. Some of these opportunities are benefits of the student visa; however, there are a number of longer-term opportunities available after graduation as well. It is for that reason that Concordia University, St. Paul recently welcomed John Medeiros on campus to present “Immigration Options for Foreign Students.”

John Medeiros presented Immigration Options for International Students at Concordia University, St. Paul

Medeiros is an Immigration Attorney with Myers-Thompson, an immigration and nationality law firm in Minneapolis. Each year, he speaks to international students about immigration options after graduation.

Medeiros offers a unique perspective to nonimmigrant students because he represents companies that they an look to for sponsorship. His goal is to help the students market themselves to the types of companies he represents.

The statistics echo the significance. According to the U.S. Department of State – Bureau of Consular Affairs website, over ten million immigrant and nonimmigrant visas were issued in 2016. At Concordia, there will be over 150 international students on campus for the 2017-2018 academic year. Bringing in Medeiros was a step to understand and support that student base as the international program grows at CSP.

Since regulations can be unpredictable, CSP plans to welcome Medeiros back to campus next academic year. To learn more about immigration options for international students, please contact Tiffanie Loeb Schneider at loebschneider@csp.edu
