Term Faculty in Music
Shari M. Speer, soprano, is currently professor of voice at Concordia University, Saint Paul, where she maintains an active voice studio, teaches class voice, diction, opera workshop and conducts the Jubilate Choir.
An active performer, Ms. Speer is soprano soloist and assistant conductor of the Sanctuary Choir at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church in Minneapolis, a soprano section leader with the Minnesota Chorale, a soprano section member of the Twin Cities “PopUp” Choir, and a former member of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra Chorale. Speer has performed and conducted regionally, including solo vocal appearances with the Minnesota Orchestra, Des Moines Symphony, Quad City Mozart Festival, Nashville Symphony, Westminster Summer Sing, and St. Paul Schubert Club. She is often called upon to assist for international artists appearing with the Saint Paul Schubert Club and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra as designated page-turner.
Prof. Speer holds degrees in voice performance and pedagogy, music education, and conducting from Augustana College, Rock Island, IL and Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ. She has served on the voice faculties of Westminster Conservatory, Luther College, Augustana College, and Gustavus Adolphus College. Prof. Speer is Membership Chair and Past-President of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). Prof. Speer lives in St. Paul with her husband, orchestral conductor Dr. Jeffrey Stirling.
