About distance education Distance education, or online classes, share the same objectives and quality instruction as our degree programs and traditional "on-campus" classes; distance courses have the same requirements and usually the same assignments. Concordia's online learners use the WebCT internet tool.
There is a 45-minute "class meeting chat" each week. This will be a live, online, group discussion of course content. These chats are always on the same evening at the same time each week. Bulletin board discussions are also integral components of online classes, and provide platforms for students to share information and refine their thoughts while gaining knowledge on a topic.
About Intensive programming Intensive courses offered at an accelerated pace and provide students with an in-depth learning experience. Classes may run for four to eight weeks, depending on the credit value, instead of the traditional 16 week semester length course. Intensive in-class courses meet one night or day a week for two to four hours. In-class Saturday intensives typically meet once for six hours with follow-up out of class assignments. Online classes have weekly 45 minute chats.
Orientations Concordia believes that student success depends on student support, therefore; AA programming begins by students attending a face-to-face new student residency where they can receive technology training.
Individual support Concordia also understands that there are students who are more independent, who are ready to begin their coursework immediately, and who are prepared to begin coursework without a face-to-face orientation. These students can receive individualized training and counseling from student advisors by phone or online, so that they can begin their coursework without travel and delay. Many students find that having a touch point and ready access to an advisor for information and guidance is all the support they need to set them on the track to a great learning experience.
