The Lutheran Catholic Reformation
Rev. Dr. Joel C. Elowsky
When celebrating the Reformation, it may seem counterintuitive to call Lutherans “catholic.” Luther and the other reformers are known for their opposition to the Catholic Church of their day. They rejected any church tradition which obscured the Gospel—and rightfully so. They are less well known, however, for their reliance on that very same tradition in reforming the church. They believed what they were saying to the church of their day was nothing new. They not only believed it; they proved it. Come join us to hear more about this “catholic” Reformation from Concordia Seminary Professor of Historical Theology Joel C Elowsky.
