Portland Campus Commencement & Pinning Ceremony

Concordia University, St. Paul, holds Commencement & Pinning Ceremonies at the end of each semester for the Bachelor of Science Nursing program in Oregon. The celebrations are held at the Holiday Inn Portland, Columbia Riverfront (909 Hayden Island Dr. Portland, OR 97217) at 4:00 p.m. and lasts approximately 1 hour.

Ceremony dates for the upcoming 2026 academic year are listed below:

  • Spring Semester – Sunday, May 17
  • Summer Semester– Sunday, August 16
  • Fall Semester – Sunday, December 20

Commencement Information

    • Students should arrive 45-60 minutes before the ceremony, dressed in their attire unless they are picking it up after check-in
    • Doors will open to students and guests 45 minutes before the ceremony
    • The entire venue is handicap accessible
    • The ceremony is approximately 60 minutes in length
    • Flowers will be available for purchase
    • Parking is free in the hotel lot
    • A professional photographer will capture students receiving their pin and diploma cover on stage and have an individual photo taken.
  • Eligible students will receive an email 3 months prior to the ceremony that outlines ceremony information timelines and the RSVP form. Eligibility is determined based on a student’s anticipated graduation date and application for program completion status. The link to submit your application for program completion can be found on the Registrar’s Program Completion & Commencement page.

  • Students participating in the commencement ceremony are required to secure their attire through CSP’s approved vendor. An email that includes information on securing attire will be sent within 3 weeks after receiving your RSVP.

  • Each student will be able to invite 9 guests to celebrate their achievement. Tickets are not required for admission. Please do not invite more than this number so we can adhere to venue capacity.

  • The ceremonies are not live-streamed or closed captioned, however, they are recorded. A recording of your ceremony will be made available 1 month following the ceremony and posted on this website. Past ceremony recordings are located on CSP’s YouTube.

  • Honors listed in the commencement program will be estimated if your degree is not yet awarded and may change based on your final grades and cumulative GPA when your degree is awarded.

    Undergraduate students who complete 60 or more credits at CSP and meet the following GPA requirements will earn Latin honors:

    • 3.6 – 3.74 Cum Laude
    • 3.75 – 3.89 Magna Cum Laude
    • 3.9 – 4.0 Summa Cum Laude

    Undergraduate students who complete 59 or fewer credits at CSP and meet the
    following GPA requirements will earn honors:

    • 3.75 – 3.89 with Distinction
    • 3.9 – 4.0 with High Distinction

    Any honors earned at the time your degree is awarded will be printed on your transcript and diploma. If your degree is awarded after the commencement ceremony and your estimated honors changed, you may request to exchange your medallion or pin by contacting the Registrar’s Office at 651-641-8233 or [email protected].

  • Yes. The Registrar’s Office will review student records for degree awarding after final grades are posted to the student record (one week after the end of the term). This process can take 2-3 weeks. The university prints diplomas monthly and sends a congratulatory email once that process is completed. The diploma and an official degree completion transcript will be mailed to the permanent address on the student’s record. If students have questions about their diploma status or transcript, they should contact [email protected].

  • The summer ceremony will take place on Sunday, August 16 and the fall ceremony on Sunday December 20, 2026.
