Majoring in K-12 Education involves the study of pedagogy, or the method and practice of teaching. You’ll develop the skills and insights to become a middle school or high school teacher and lifelong learner. Concordia offers variety of specialties so you can customize your major to the subject area in which you would like to teach: Art, Physical Education & Health (Grade 5-12), English as a Second Language and Music (Instrumental and/or Vocal).

You’ll gain knowledge and skills that are important for any teaching career as you take education classes plus coursework within your chosen content area to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree, and the K-12 education curriculum meets the Minnesota Department of Education requirements for a teaching credential (passage of standardized examinations of content and pedagogy are also required).

You’ll also have opportunities to learn through a series of content courses, methods courses, field experiences, and a student teaching clinical. We design our K-12 education program to be responsive to the exact needs of the marketplace (the department works in collaboration with both public and private schools in Minnesota, throughout the United States, and abroad.)
